This paean to the natural environment comes to life upon entering the boulevard at the club’s main gate where two eye-pleasing waterfalls are located. Another source of immediate delight is the Calusa Lakes’ clubhouse which was renovated recently to further enhance club membership value.
At the clubhouse, members mainly converge at the Bar and Grill which provides a wide array of choices for food and drinks. Breakfast and lunch are served all week at the dining room spacious enough to accommodate large social events and parties. The bar provides not only drinks but also snacks like hotdogs and cold sandwiches. As part of the renovation, a new 52-inch HDTV flat screen monitor was added among the many clubhouse facilities. Also available to members are tennis courts, a heated swimming pool, and a pro shop manned by a friendly and attentive staff.
Calusa Lakes Golf Course
Golfing privilege with a Calusa Lakes Golf Club membership comes as a three-in-one package. In addition to the club’s own 18-hole golf course, members can also play at the Waterford and Capri Isles layouts in Venice. All in all, this provides a playing option on 63 holes of golf featuring five 18-hole combination’s.
The Calusa Lakes’ par 72 course opened in 1991 and likewise underwent a renovation recently for the resurfacing of its greens with Champion grass. This layout is a creation by the famous course architect, Ted McAnlis, who designed links with four varying sets of tees to meet different golfer skills. McAnlis’ design ably integrated the course’s rolling fairways with the abundant oaks and pine trees at the community. Course yardage varies from 6,715 to 5,197; course ratings are between 67.6 and 72.5, and slope ratings between 114 and 125.
Par 72 play goes too for the Waterford and Capri Isles. Also a McAnlis course, the Waterford is a unique 27-hole layout featuring a trio of configurations (Greeneagles, Turnberry, and Sawgrass). Course lengths here vary from 5,016 to 6,670 yards and course ratings are between 66.4 and 72.4, and slope rating at between 115 and 134. A tour at the Capri Isles’ layout involves yardage between 5,075 and 6,600; course ratings are between 67.5, and 71.8 and slope ratings at between 115 and 130.
Calusa Lakes’ members can tap the services of two in-house pros for training lessons. They also have access to a putting green and a 180-yard aqua driving range with two floating greens as targets. The Championship Membership couple’s package is the premium club membership and costs $5,860. A single membership is offered at $2,100 as an alternative. The more economical membership packages are those for junior and junior couple.
